Windows To Go is a new feature in Windows 8 that allows you to install a portable version of Windows on a USB drive that you can take anywhere. However, the built-in Windows To Go Creator is only available in the Enterprise edition. Luckily there is a freeware ISO2Disc that allows you to create a Windows To Go USB drive from any editions of Windows 8 ISO image.

Requirements:

  • A USB drive (USB 3.0 is preferrable) or external USB hard drive with at least 16GB of space.
  • Windows 8, 8.1 or Windows 10 ISO image
  • The free ISO burning tool: ISO2Disc

How to Create A Windows 8 To Go USB Drive?

  1. Download and install the freeware ISO2Disc on your computer.
  2. Plug in your external USB drive on the PC and launch ISO2Disc.

  3. Click on Browse button to select your Windows 8 or 8.1 ISO image. Please note that the program will format your external USB drive and delete its entire data, so it is always recommended taking a backup before you continue.
  4. Click on Burn to USB Flash Drive option and select your USB drive from the device list.
  5. Choose the GPT partition style if you want to create a UEFI bootable drive, or stick with MBR if you need to boot off a computer with a traditional BIOS.
  6. Under the Bootdisk Type, select “Windows to Go (install Windows to USB)“.

  7. When you click Start Burn, it begins to install a portable version of Windows to your USB drive. This process can take a very long time if you use a USB 2.0 thumb drive. It’s recommended to use an external USB mass storage device and this process can be done within about ten minutes.

How to connect to SQL Server after you’ve forgotten SQL Server password? In this article I’ll show you how to reset SQL Server password in single-user mode. This hacking trick makes it possible to recover access to your SQL Server instance without resetting the password of any existing account.

How to Recover SQL Server Password in Single-user Mode

  1. Launch SQL Server Configuration Manager. Stop your SQL Server instance if it is running.
  2. Right-click on your SQL Server instance and select Properties.

    SQL Server Configuration Manager

  3. In SQL Server 2014 or 2012, click Startup Parameters tab. Enter –mand then click Add.

    SQL Server 2014/2012 Startup Parameters

If you’ve installed SQL Server 2008 (R2) or an earlier version, click Advanced tab and add -m; before existing value in Startup Parametersbox, without any spaces.

    SQL Server 2008/2005 Startup Parameters

  4. Save your changes and restart the SQL Server instance. This will start SQL Server in single-user mode.
  5. Open an elevated Command Prompt and use the SQLCMD command to connect to your SQL Server instance:
    SQLCMD –S .\SQLEXPRESS

Replace SQLEXPRESS with the name of your SQL Server instance.

  6. Here we’ll create a new login called “tom” and then add this account to the SA server role. Run this command:
    CREATE LOGIN tom WITH PASSWORD='P@ssword123'
    GO
    SP_ADDSRVROLEMEMBER tom,'SYSADMIN'
    GO

Create New Login in SQL Server Single-user Mode

  7. Once you’ve successfully performed these steps, the next step is to stop your SQL Server instance. Remove the -m you’ve added in Startup Parameters.
  8. Start your SQL Server instance. Open the SQL Server Management Studio and you can login using the newly created “tom” account. You now have SA access to your SQL Server instance. You may now reset the SA password and take control of your SQL Server box.

However, if you can’t access SQL Server in single-user mode or can’t log on Windows as administrator, this method won’t work. In that situation, you need to use the SQL Server Password Changer program which enables you to unlock / reset SQL Server SA password offline.

Lost Windows XP password and can’t login? This could put you in big trouble especially if you do not have any other OS configured for dual boot and this will prevent you from accessing your files as well. But there are many password recovery tools which can be used even if you do not have access to Windows.

PCUnlocker is one of the best and top rated password recovery tools, which could be used to remove lost Windows 8/7/Vista/XP passwords. This tutorial will guide you through the steps to unlock Windows XP administrator and user passwords with PCUnlocker Live CD/USB drive.

Part 1: Create a Bootable CD or USB Drive

  1. Download the self-extracting .zip archive of PCUnlocker using a working computer with internet connection. Unzip it and you’ll get the pcunlocker.iso file, which contains a WinPE operating system along with the PCUnlocker software for you to reset Windows XP password.
  2. Burn the ISO image to a CD using your favorite CD/DVD burning software such as ImgBurn, BurnCDCC, etc. If you need to make a bootable USB drive, ISO2Disc could be of help.

Burn ISO Image to CD or USB flash drive

Part 2: Change Boot Order

  1. Turn on your locked computer. When it is powered on, check the boot-screen for setup key (i.e. DELETE key, F8 key, F2 key) to enter BIOS Setup Utility.
  2. Use the arrow keys to select the BOOT tab, then change the Boot Device Priority: Set 1st Boot Device to CDROM so you can boot from the CD, or choose Removable Device if you want to boot off a USB flash drive.
  3. Press F10 to save your changes.

Part 3: Remove Windows XP Password

  1. After booting your locked Windows XP computer from the CD or USB drive, you’ll see the main interface of the PCUnlocker application immediately.
  2. The application automatically locates Windows accounts inside the SAM registry file of your Windows XP installation. Each account is listed with its account properties to help users recognize if it is locked out, disabled, expired or password protected.

    Reset Windows XP Password

  3. Select a user account from the list, and click the Reset Password button. It will reset / unlock your lost Windows XP password instantly.
  4. After that’s done, click the Restart button to reboot the computer and remove the CD or USB drive. When you get to the Windows login screen, just left the password blank and you can log on Windows XP successfully.

It’s also a good idea to make a PCUnlocker Live CD or USB drive before you forget Windows login password. So you can use it to reset your lost Windows password anytime even if you are unable to find a working computer for downloading PCUnlocker.

System Requirements

  • Processor: 1 gigahertz (GHz) or faster (Intel or ARM).
  • RAM: 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit).
  • Hard drive space: 16 GB (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit).
  • Graphics card: Microsoft DirectX 9 graphics device or higher.
  • To use touch, you need a tablet or monitor that supports multitouch.

  • To snap apps in the Metro interface, you need a screen resolution of at least 1366 x 768.

Most interesting is you must have a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 to run apps from the Windows Store. Those of you holding out at 800 x 600, it is time to buy a new monitor.

Microsoft, as promised, released the Windows 8 Consumer Preview during their special event outside Mobile World Congress 2012. Yes, they had this little tent like structure set up just to announce the Consumer Preview and all the new features they’ve added to it.

So, what’s new in the build? Some of the more noteworthy improvements include OS-wide spell check (this is huge; it’s a feature that has been requested by a lot of people for years), the replacement of the Start button with what is called a “Start preview thumbnail” – which displays a preview of the start screen on top of an interface that allows you to cycle through all of your open apps – and the introduction of “Flyout” notifications.

This Consumer Preview release is the first official Windows 8 build drop from Microsoft since the Developer Preview, which was released during the BUILD conference last September. This was downloaded quite rapidly, surpassing the 500,000 downloads mark within 24 hours of release, and the 3 million mark by December, so it will be interesting to see how much traction the Consumer Preview will gain.

You can download Windows 8 Consumer Preview from Microsoft’s official website. It’s available in the form of ISO or a Setup file that downloads the ISO and then extracts it and so on. Windows 8 Consumer Preview is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit, so download what suits your computer best. This is going to be a huge improvement over the previous versions of Windows, so if you were giving up on it, then you should give this a try.

Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview 32-bit
Download Windows 8 Consumer Preview 64-bit
Product Key: DNJXJ-7XBW8-2378T-X22TX-BKG7J

Here’s the link to the official Microsoft Windows 8 Consumer Preview download page, just in case you are looking for the same version in other languages. Try it and let us know what you think of the new and improved Windows.

Forgot Windows administrator password? You are prevented from logging into Windows system as your password was changed by others? Looking for the most powerful password recovery software to crack lost Windows password? Most people are usually confronted with such or similar problem, ranging from computer newbies to experts.

In this article, I describe the largest collection and the most popular password recovery software for Windows 8, 7, Vista and Windows XP. Each software has its advantages and disadvantages. Make sure you use the right procedure for your situation.

1. Offline NT Password & Registry Editor

This utility can be used to reset or set the password for any user for a local account on your Windows NT (or Windows 7/ XP/ Vista) based system. This utility will set password without using old password, and it can recover administrator users password as well. It does not work while you running your Windows so basically you have to boot from removable media (floppy Cd etc..) in order to run it, thus you will need to have access to Machine and to bios to change the boot order if required.

It can also unlock, disabled or locked user account along with resetting password and it can also work as Registry editor in Offline mode. So it comes real handy for manual removal of Trojan and Viruses, which are not being removed by your Anti virus, or which does not allow you to open Registry editor while windows is running.

Windows passwords are stored in system in encrypted form located in system32\config directory. This file is also part of windows registry. But using Offline NT Password & Registry Editor we can edit this file as well as registry which is normally in Binary format.

To recover password, just download the ISO file from above site, burn it to a cd and boot from it after which it will allow you to delete or reset password from the menu, and you are done. It is very easy and simple to use menu driven program.

2. Ophcrack

Ophcrack is based on rainbow table method and can actually crack your windows password and show them on screen, This can be used for hacking the system, but again like others you need to download ISO image of their bootable CD, burn it and boot your PC using this CD. It comes with a GTK+ Graphical User Interface and runs on Windows, Mac OS X (Intel CPU) as well as on Linux.

3. SAMInside

SAMInside is a very powerful Windows password recovery tool but it is not free, but using demo version you can recover your password with some limitation. basically if you need to recover password for only one machine then probably you can use it for with limitations mentioned on home page given above.

SAMInside can import SAM and System registry files and can recover password, it can also recover password from these files even if they are encrypted with additional syskey. It also have several other feature which makes it most powerful Windows password recovery program. Full version of SAMInside can literally recover password for any version of windows with almost any kind of encryption used in password storage. So if you need a professional Password recovery program this is the best choice.

4. Kon-Boot

It is a free utility which was basically designed to login some Linux distribution without knowing the root password or elevate any user to have root privileges. But Now the days you can use it with windows as well. It works great with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Even with windows Server 2008 version.

Kon-Boot
Bypasses authentication check during boot and you can login to any local user account without validating or entering the password for same. so once you are logged in as Administrator user of the machine you can change the password for any user including yourself. Kon-Boot is available as Bootable Floppy and CD image on above mentioned site, and you can also create a USB boot media with Kon-Boot in it by using Unetbootin.

Cain & Abel not only recover Windows password but it can work with various other passwords and can sniff network data and can be used as decrypter as well. It can use dictionary, Brute force attack or cryptanalysis algorithm to decrypt password.

Cain & Abel need you to login to windows with administrator privilege, so you can recover password for any other account once you login to windows using any Administrator Account. This is not a Recover Windows password tool to use if you have forgotten the admin password for windows and unable to login to windows system as administrator. You need to have access to at least one Admin account on the machine for which you need to recover Forgotten Admin Password. LCP Is also a bit complex program just like previous one and you must have some basic cum advanced windows knowledge in order to use it. It Also uses combination of password retrieval methods including Brute force, and Dictionary attacks.

7. John The Ripper

It is one of most popular software among Unix working group for Password breaking. John the Ripper itself is a free tool but you may need to pay for the word list which is used to break the password, though you can find the wordlist for free as well. That is why It still categorized as free tool.
